About this Gothic Autumn Doorway Harvest Wreath embroidery pattern
Gothic Autumn Doorway Harvest Wreath brings botanical and gothic details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A wreath of vines, roses, pumpkins, berries and autumn leaves wraps around the doorway; pale webs and black spiders occupy the upper field. Darkest values: Arch shadows, spider bodies, tiny black dots and the deepest door grain. Brightest values: Ivory roses, pale web lines and the cream-gold window panes. Approach: Establish the architecture first, then build the botanical wreath outward and finish with webs, spiders and raised knot accents.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- 1. Establish the doorway. Outline the pointed stone surround, threshold, door silhouette, window frames and hardware before filling. 2. Fill architecture. Work gray stone blocks first, then the rust-orange door with vertical long-and-short stitches and fine dark wood grain. 3. Build major wreath stems. Lay olive vine curves around both sides and beneath the doorway; keep crossings clean and slightly raised. 4. Add flowers and harvest motifs. Stitch burgundy and ivory roses, the orange and mustard pumpkins, leaves, berries and tiny cream blossoms. 5. Add webs and spiders. Use single-strand pale backstitch for web geometry and black for spider bodies, legs and small dot accents. 6. Finish highlights. Add window glow, pale leaf highlights, tiny knots and edge cleanup; secure all travel threads on the reverse
