About this Autumn Apothecary Potions Moths embroidery pattern

Autumn Apothecary Potions Moths brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Five labeled potion bottles - Poison Ivy, Belladonna, Moon Moss, Owl's Brew and Nightshade - framed by two moths, bare branches, olive/rust leaves, moons, stars, mushrooms, acorns and.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 CM HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

The supplied guide proposes 16 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

Stitching sequence

  1. 1. TRANSFER + CENTERLINE Transfer the five bottle silhouettes first, then the upper and lower moths. Add the branch wreath last so the composition stays symmetrical around the Moon Moss bottle. 2. BOTTLE GLASS Shade Poison Ivy and Moon Moss in 730/732/733, Belladonna in 918/919/920, Owl's Brew in 840/822, and Nightshade in 3799/310 with 919 at the stopper. Follow bottle 3. LABELS + LETTERING Fill labels lightly with 822. Stitch all words and tiny botanical/celestial icons with one strand of 310 or 3371; keep counters open and outlines thin. 4. MOTHS Work pale wing fields in 822, copper panels in 918/919/920/921, olive/gray accents in 733/3799, and bodies in 839/3371. Use one-strand backstitch for veins and antennae. 5. BRANCH WREATH + LEAVES Stem-stitch branches in 3371/838/839. Fishbone olive leaves in 730/732/733/734 and rust leaves in 918/919/920; vary stitch direction to follow each leaf axis. 6. MUSHROOMS + CELESTIAL DETAILS Use 822/839 for stems, 918/920 for caps, and 3371 for gills. Finish moons, stars, cords, berries and acorns with 310/3799/676 plus restrained copper highlights. FINISHING & PRESSING NOTES Press from the reverse over a thick towel. Protect raised moth bodies, cork texture and French-knot berries; re-block so the five bottle bases and central Moon Moss label remain level
