About this Autumn Witch Broom Fall Wreath embroidery pattern

Autumn Witch Broom Fall Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: central rustic witch broom with coral bow, copper/mustard/plum foliage, black and cream line leaves, three candles, berries, gold starbursts and open negative space around the broom.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 14 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

The supplied guide labels this design advanced. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.

warm ivory linen/cotton, 28-32 count; firm enough for long broom lines

Stitching sequence

  1. TRANSFER + WREATH SKELETON Transfer the broom centerline first, then outer wreath arcs, major leaf axes, candle bodies and star centers. Work the finest black/cream line leaves and tiny vines first so later dense fills do not bury them. Preserve the open center around the broom.
  2. BROOM + BINDING Build the handle in 801/938 split-stitch grain running vertically. For the bristles, add sparse vertical underpadding, then work 3371/3021 long-and-short from binding toward the tips, fanning outward slightly. Add a few 938 interstitial lines for twig separation rather than outlining every strand.
  3. MAPLE + OAK FOLIAGE Thread-paint broad maple leaves lobe by lobe: rust leaves with 3777/920/921 and plum leaves with 154/3041. Work mustard and narrow leaves in fishbone using 832/729, changing stitch angle naturally with the central vein and keeping the tips crisp.
  4. CORAL BOW + CANDLES Lightly underpad bow loops perpendicular to the final direction, then thread-paint from 3777 shadows into 920/921 highlights following each fold. Work candle bodies in 3041/3865 over light horizontal padding; keep the brightest highlight narrow and vertical.
  5. BERRIES + STARBURSTS Form plum berries with compact 154 knots and gold dots with 729/3852 one- or two-wrap knots. Build stars from balanced straight stitches radiating from a common center, placing the longest rays first so the geometry stays even.
  6. FINAL LINEWORK + FINISH Reinforce only key black/cream leaf veins and fine vines with one strand. Check left-right visual weight at arm's length, correct any dense imbalance before securing tails, then steam-block face-down without crushing the bow or padded candles
