About this Raven Candle Celestial Vines embroidery pattern

Raven Candle Celestial Vines brings celestial and gothic details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: black raven above a glowing rust candle, potion bottles, ochre berry clusters and crescent moons, enclosed by looping charcoal vines with sparse sage leaves, gold knots and starbursts.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

This watermarked preview shows the transfer drawing. Clean outlines are included in the purchased pattern PDF.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 16 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

The supplied guide labels this design advanced. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.

warm ivory linen/cotton, 28-32 count; firm enough for the long vine

Stitching sequence

  1. TRANSFER + VINE FRAME Transfer the raven, candle, bottles, moons and full looping vine framework. Work the long vine network first in one-strand 844 stem/split stitch using short curve-following segments. Mark raven feather tracts and bottle boundaries before any dense filling.
  2. RAVEN THREAD PAINTING Build crown to throat, then shoulder through wing and tail. Lay overlapping 310/3799/413 long-and-short feather layers like shingles: about 20-30 degrees on the neck and 30-45 degrees through coverts. Add 317 only on a few raised edges; finish the eye with a tiny 3865 point.
  3. CANDLE + FLAME Lay sparse horizontal padding beneath the candle, then cover mainly vertically in 3777/920, keeping one side darker and a narrow 676/729 highlight toward the flame. Shape the flame upward with 729 and a tiny 676 core; keep the candle clearly warmer and lighter than the raven.
  4. POTION BOTTLES + LABELS Outline bottle silhouettes in one strand 801/433. Shade liquid or glass lightly with 822/3865 and restrained warm accents where visible, keeping centers lighter than sidewalls. Work labels flatter than the bottle bodies and add tiny symbols/lines only after the glass fills are complete.
  5. BERRIES, LEAVES + MOONS Fishbone sage leaves in 3051/3022, keeping charcoal leaves darker in 844. Build ochre berries in 832 with small 729 highlights using compact padded satin or 2-wrap knots. Satin crescent moons from inner curve to outer edge in 729, using 920 only on the warm crescent.
  6. STARS + FINAL BALANCE Add starbursts with one-strand 729 straight stitches and scattered gold dots with small French knots. Refine nest/twig details in 801/433, inspect every vine intersection for show-through, bury dark tails beneath filled motifs and steam-block from the reverse
