About this Blue Black Bat Woodland Floral Ring embroidery pattern

Blue Black Bat Woodland Floral Ring brings botanical and woodland details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: central dark blue-black bat inside an open circular botanical border with rust/peach flowers, burgundy berries, olive and cool blue-green leaves, pale blossoms, seed heads and curling stems.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. TRANSFER + RING SCAFFOLD Transfer the bat silhouette, wing/fur boundaries, all main stems, flower centers and berry cluster anchors. Work the circular stem scaffold first in 3011/3750 stem stitch using short segments through curves so the ring stays smooth and open.
  2. BAT THREAD PAINTING Work the bat before dense florals. Build deepest wing and body recesses in 310/939, blend through 3750 and 3768 on raised planes, and rotate stitch direction with each anatomical surface. Keep the eye crisp and tiny; avoid broad pale outlining.
  3. OLIVE + COOL FOLIAGE Fishbone olive leaves in 3011/3012 and blue-green leaves in 3750/3768, always converging toward the central vein. Use darker value at leaf bases/overlaps and reserve lighter thread for only a few tips so the ring keeps depth.
  4. RUST / PEACH FLOWERS Work larger rust blossoms radially in 920/921 with 3778 on upper petal planes. Keep petal centers slightly recessed using 729 or 3802 knots. Add smaller warm flowers after leaves so petals overlap foliage naturally.
  5. BURGUNDY BERRIES + PALE BLOOMS Build burgundy berry groups with compact 3802/3726 two-wrap knots, tapering cluster density toward stem ends. Add small pale flowers in 3865/822 using short satin or detached-chain petals and tiny 729 centers.
  6. SEED HEADS + FINAL ACCENTS Finish gold seed heads, curls and tiny marks in one strand 729/3011/310. Reinforce only true weak stem junctions. Check the ring at arm's length for even visual weight, preserve intentional gaps, bury dark tails beneath filled motifs and steam-block from the reverse
