The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 16 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

The supplied guide labels this design advanced. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.

Warm natural ivory linen/cotton, approx. 28-32 count. A firm even weave supports the crisp skeleton

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer the dancing skeleton and ghost first, then the five pumpkins, top crescent, two witch hats, major leaf clusters, stars and curling vines. Stitch the 3799 skeleton framework, ghost/glasses outline and 3051 vine curls with one strand before any filled areas so the circular spacing stays controlled. 2. MAIN FOCAL ELEMENT Build the ghost in 3865 with sparse 822/414 shadows. Follow the fabric drape from crown into the lower folds, keeping the face and central body light. Add the 3799 glasses only after the fill is smooth, then finish the small black eyes, smile and shoes in 310. 3. SECONDARY LARGE ELEMENT Stitch the skeleton in 3799 with tiny 414 shadows and restrained 3865 highlights. Follow each limb bone lengthwise, keep joints crisp and leave open fabric between ribs. Work the skull sockets and teeth last so the face remains clean beside the ghost. 4. PUMPKINS + MOON + HATS Shade pumpkins with 3777/920/921/3826, darkest in side grooves and brightest on front-facing ribs. Fill the crescent in 3829/729 along the arc. Work hats in 154/3740, then add 938/3826 bands and buckles after the purple surfaces are complete. 5. AUTUMN FOLIAGE + SMALL DETAILS Layer 3051/3052 fishbone leaves around the circle, then add 3777/920/921 rust-copper leaves and 154/3740 plum accents. Stitch stars in 729, 3052 and 3740 with clean straight rays. Keep all foliage flatter than the central figures and pumpkins. 6. FINAL DETAILS + BLOCKING Add one-strand leaf veins, refine pumpkin stems and vine curls, sharpen skeleton joints and recheck the ghost glasses for symmetry. Preserve open ivory gaps around hands, feet and hats, bury tails away from the pale ghost, then steam lightly from the reverse and block the hoop design perfectly round
