About this Ghost Moths Woodland Mushroom Wreath embroidery pattern

Ghost Moths Woodland Mushroom Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central white sheet ghost holding a jack-o'-lantern; arched moon phases; dark twig wreath with olive foliage and rust hips/berries; cream, tan and coral mushrooms; five moths; tiny ochre accent dots. Artwork reference - full composition, undistorted.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer ghost contour, moon-phase centers, main twig arc and mushroom baselines. Stitch 3371 branches first, tapering from 2 strands at lower arcs to 1 strand at twig tips. Keep the inner halo around the ghost open. 2. MAIN FOCAL ELEMENT Build the ghost with Ecru/3865 long-and-short stitches that follow the hanging cloth: crown downward, sleeves outward, hem into soft diagonal folds. Add 3033 only in fold undersides; face details in 3371 last. 3. SECONDARY LARGE ELEMENT Work the pumpkin pail with 921 + 3826 curved satin/long-and-short segments, placing 3777 at grooves and lower edge. Stitch the handle thin and flat; add the tiny radiating gold lines after the fill. 4. FOLIAGE + MUSHROOM GROUPS Fishbone leaves in 3012/3011 with 832 on lit edges; keep each leaf base-to-tip. Shape coral caps in 3859 with darker undersides, tan/cream caps in 3864/3782, and radiate gill stitches from stems. 5. MOTHS + MOON PHASES + SMALL FRUIT Keep moon discs flat and smooth in 3799/924/3033. Fill moth wings from body outward, preserving pale spots and directional veins; berries in 921/3777 and small gold dots in 3826. Wing veins, antennae and twig tips are 1 strand. 6. FINAL DETAILS + BLOCKING Add last French knots, facial marks, gills and isolated accent dots; check circular balance and keep moths subordinate to the central ghost. Secure tails away from pale fills, mist lightly from reverse, then block square without flattening textured knots
