About this Hanging Bat Autumn Botanical embroidery pattern
Hanging Bat Autumn Botanical brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: central upside-down bat hanging by narrow claws from a curved branch, gold/copper crown foliage, trailing ivy, cream/lavender candles and flowers, crescent moon and tiny stars.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

The supplied guide proposes 16 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

Stitching sequence
- TRANSFER + BRANCH / IVY Transfer the bat symmetry axis, wing panel boundaries, hanging claws, branch, major leaf veins, ivy spines, candle bases and celestial marks. Work the branch first in 801/420 stem stitch and the thinnest ivy tendrils in one-strand 934 split/stem.
- BAT HEAD + TORSO Underpad only the cranial dome and upper torso with short horizontal stitches. Cover from crown toward muzzle in 3799/413 long-and- short, reserving 318 for narrow forehead, cheek and muzzle highlights. Add 310 eyes/nose last with minute 3865 catchlights.
- WING MEMBRANES Divide each wing into its visible membrane panels. Thread-paint shoulder-to-edge with overlapping 3799/413 rows, changing angle about 25-40 degrees from panel to panel. Keep 310 in deepest folds and use 318 only as thin ridge catchlights - never broad gray bands.
- AUTUMN CROWN + IVY LEAVES Fishbone gold leaves in 3826/729, rust leaves in 920/3826 and ivy in 934/3011/3052. Work from vein to edge and shorten stitches toward tips. Keep the side ivy cooler/darker than the top crown so the bat remains the central dark mass.
- LOWER FLOWERS + CANDLES Build lavender flowers with 3740/3041 detached-chain or short long-and-short petals and compact knot centers. Pad candle bodies horizontally, cover vertically with 3864/3865 and add restrained 3041 shadowing. Satin flames in 3826/729 with a tiny pale core.
- CRESCENT + STARS + FINISH Satin the crescent in 729 following its curve. Add balanced straight-stitch stars and a few tiny knots only after checking composition symmetry. Reinforce claws and facial details, bury dark tails beneath filled bat areas and steam-block from the reverse
