About this Hanging Bat Moon Dark Floral Wreath embroidery pattern

Hanging Bat Moon Dark Floral Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: central upside-down bat enclosed by a blue-green vine wreath with dark teal rosettes, olive leaves, copper berry clusters, cream tendrils, crescent moons and scattered starbursts.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 16 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

The supplied guide labels this design advanced. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.

warm ivory linen/cotton, 28-32 count; firm enough for dense bat shading

Stitching sequence

  1. TRANSFER + WREATH FRAME Transfer the bat, branch, crescent moons, full vine scaffold, flower centers and berry clusters. Stitch the main blue-green stems first in 500/501 stem stitch using short segments through spirals. Add cream tendrils in one strand 738 before surrounding fills.
  2. BAT HEAD + BODY Underpad only the compact crown/muzzle lightly. Thread-paint crown toward cheeks and throat in 3799/3781/3860, reserving 310 for the deepest eye, nostril and fold detail. Use 3778 sparingly inside ears and around the nose, then place tiny 3865 eye catchlights last.
  3. WING MEMBRANES Treat every folded membrane as its own plane. Work 3799 valleys first, blend through 413 and 3860 on raised surfaces, then add very narrow pale ridge catches only where needed. Shift stitch angle 25-40 degrees between panels and add seams after filling.
  4. ROSETTES + OLIVE LEAVES Build dark teal rosettes with compact woven wheels in 500/501, using 502 only on selected outer turns. Fishbone olive leaves in 3011/3012 with occasional 832 warm accents, rotating stitch direction naturally around the circular wreath.
  5. BERRIES + MOONS Form copper berries with consistent 2-wrap knots in 920/921, varying spacing instead of knot size. Satin crescent moons along their arcs in 738/729, keeping them relatively flat. Add small cream flourishes in 3865 one-strand split/straight stitches.
  6. STARS + FINAL BALANCE Add starbursts with one-strand 729/920 straight stitches and a few isolated knots. Check the wreath from arm's length: teal rosettes should balance without overpowering the bat. Refine facial/claw details, bury dark tails under filled motifs and steam-block from the reverse
