About this Raven Moon Phases embroidery pattern
Raven Moon Phases brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central black raven perched on a twisting brown branch, copper and black moon phases with small stars, olive and sage botanicals, rust leaves and berries, cream flowers and knots, and three small amber apothecary bottles at the base.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.
Color and stitch guidance
The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.
The supplied guide labels this design intermediate. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.
Stitching sequence
- Transfer the raven, branch framework, moon phases, stars, botanical sprays, berries, bottle silhouettes and tiny labels. Keep the negative ivory fabric open around the focal bird.
- Build the tree first: lay the main branch contours in 3371/898, then layer 801 and 920 following the twist of the bark. Keep tendrils narrow and graceful.
- Work the raven from darkest to lighter values: 310 for silhouette anchors, then 3799 and 413 for directional feather groups. Change stitch angle at wing, breast and tail boundaries.
- Stitch moon phases and celestial marks next. Use smooth satin for copper, cream and black shapes, keeping crescents crisp and stars small so they do not compete with the raven.
- Add olive/sage foliage in fishbone and rust foliage in copper tones. Work cream flowers with detached chain and knots; scatter berries only after leaves are complete.
- Finish the three apothecary bottles with fine outlines, corks, liquid fills and tiny label lines. Add final knots and black dots, then check balance across left and right sprays. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel. Protect raised berry knots, bottle details and dense raven feathers from direct pressure
