About this Wrought-Iron Moon Gate, Mushrooms and Ferns embroidery pattern

The gate's mirrored scrolls remain fine open linework against the pale crescent behind them. Its vertical bars provide structure above a lower cluster of rounded mushroom caps and tapered fern fronds. Moths soften the architectural symmetry and repeat the pale lavender tones in small flowers. The moon-phase row is separate from the large crescent, creating a clear upper boundary while preserving visible fabric around the gate and foliage.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer the gate centerline, mirrored posts, crescent, five upper moon phases and major fern arcs.

  3. Shade the moon and mushroom caps, then build fern leaflets and moth wings with directional fills.
  4. Complete mushroom gills, tiny flowers, starbursts and colored knot-dots, checking gate symmetry before finishing.
