About this Anatomical Skull with Purple Thistle Twin Bats Spiderwebs embroidery pattern

Anatomical Skull with Purple Thistle Twin Bats Spiderwebs brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: central skull with tall purple thistle, two bats, paired spiderwebs and spiders, seed pods, dark ferns, plum/sage foliage, berries, stars and circular wreath.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer and structural framework Transfer the skull, thistle, two bats, both upper spiderwebs, spiders, circular wreath, fern sprays, seed pods, berry groups, bottom flower and all major stems. Establish the skull centerline, jaw and web spokes before filling.
  2. Main focal element Build the anatomical skull first in 762/318/317/413/3799, following bone planes through forehead, cheekbones and jaw. Keep sockets, nasal cavity and tooth divisions crisp with 310 and one-strand split/backstitch.
  3. Secondary large element Work the tall thistle rising from the skull. Shape the flower head with 154/3740/3041/3042 in radiating strokes, then build the cone and stem; keep its vertical silhouette distinct against the webs and bats.
  4. Foliage / supporting motifs Build the circular wreath from stems outward. Work navy ferns, sage leaves, mauve foliage, black leaves and tan seed pods. Keep leaf stitches base-to-tip and pod ribs curved around each capsule so the wreath stays airy but structured.
  5. Small decorative details Add the twin bats, paired spiderwebs, hanging spiders, berry groups, starbursts, tiny gold dots and the bottom mauve flower. Use one strand for web lines and bat wing marks so these details remain crisp rather than heavy.
  6. Final accents, dimensional details, cleanup, and blocking Refine skull teeth and bone fissures, thistle tips, pod crowns, fern tips and berry knots. Remove transfer marks and block gently. Confirm the skull remains dominant, the thistle is secondary, and webs/bats frame the upper field without crowding the wreath
