About this Autumn Broom embroidery pattern

Autumn Broom brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central rustic broom with rust bow; old-gold crescent; burgundy, copper and sage wreath with acorns/pinecones; three harvest.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Printable outline preview

This watermarked preview shows the transfer drawing. Clean outlines are included in the purchased pattern PDF.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 CM HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

Stitching sequence

  1. 1. TRANSFER + BALANCE Transfer the broom first, then the bow and three pumpkins. Mark the crescent and the mirrored wreath branches before adding pinecones, acorns, vine curls and scattered gold stars so the circle stays balanced. 2. BROOM HANDLE + STRAW Shade the handle with 3371/938 in the deepest grain and 801 on the warm ridges. Build the straw bundle with long straight stitches in 3829/3852/3828, varying length naturally and anchoring the tied neck with compact dark wraps. 3. BOW + CENTRAL DETAILS Work the bow in 920/921 with 922 on upper ridges. Follow each fold with directional long-and-short rather than flat fill. Add the tiny stars and crescent motifs on the bow last in 729/3852. 4. HARVEST PUMPKINS Use 920/921/922 on the orange pumpkin, 3829/729/3828 on the mustard pumpkin, and 3011/3052 with 3828 on the pale sage pumpkin. Define ribs with narrow directional shading, not heavy outlines. 5. WREATH FOLIAGE + FOREST MOTIFS Fishbone leaves in 814/815, 920/922, 3051/3052 and 3011. Build pinecones from dark 3371/938 cores outward with 801/3828 detached-chain or padded scales; work acorns with 938 caps and 3828 bodies. 6. MOON + FINAL GOLD DETAILS Pad the crescent lightly and satin stitch with 3829 shadow and 729 main fill. Add stars and dots as one-strand straight stitches/French knots. Finish vine curls and leaf veins last so they remain crisp and delicate. FINISHING & PRESSING NOTES Keep the white linen open between the broom and wreath. Press from the reverse over a padded towel so pinecones, knots, pumpkin ribs and broom straw stay dimensional
