About this Candle Grimoire embroidery pattern
Candle Grimoire brings botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Candle, ornate holder, stacked books, ivy, blackberries, flowers, gold foliage.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.
Printable outline preview
This watermarked preview shows the transfer drawing. Clean outlines are included in the purchased pattern PDF.
Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.
Color and stitch guidance
The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.
The supplied guide labels this design intermediate. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.
Stitching sequence
- Transfer the complete layout, including the book stack, candleholder, mirrored wreath curls, ivy leaves, berries, flowers and small gold dots.
- Work the dark vine skeleton first in stem stitch. Add the large ivy leaves with directional fishbone or long-and-short, matching left-right angles.
- Add gold foliage, dusty-rose flowers and blackberry clusters. Use compact knots or padded satin for berries so clusters remain raised and dimensional.
- Stitch the stacked books from bottom upward: dark covers first, then page blocks, spine bands and fine one-strand title lettering or decorative lines.
- Build the ornate candlestick in black-brown and gold-brown, then shade the purple candle with vertical long-and-short and padded satin wax drips.
- Finish the flame, tiny scattered dots, mauve curls and fine outline corrections. Keep the candle centered and the wreath visually balanced. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel; avoid flattening blackberry knots, padded wax drips, flower centers, gold satin details and book-spine lettering
