About this Flying Crow Key Roses embroidery pattern
Flying Crow Key Roses brings botanical and gothic details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central charcoal-black crow in flight carrying an antique gold key, circular twig wreath, dimensional rust-orange/ivory/old-gold rosette flowers, sage and dark olive leaves, three ivory spider webs, small golden spiders, cream berries, orange buds and thorn-like accents.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.
Color and stitch guidance
The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.
The supplied guide labels this design intermediate. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.
Stitching sequence
- Transfer the full crow silhouette, key, circular twig wreath, all rosette placements, leaves, three spider webs, spiders, berries, buds and thorn accents. Mark major feather groups and web geometry clearly.
- Work the spider webs, tiny spider legs, cream berry highlights and the finest leaf veins first with one strand. Keep web rings light and evenly tensioned so the linen remains flat.
- Build the crow from darkest to lightest: 310 in deepest overlaps and legs, 3799 through the body and wing masses, then 317 sparingly on selected feather ridges. Follow feather growth from body to wing tips and tail.
- Stitch the antique key with 729 and 832, keeping the shaft crisp and the bow neatly padded. Work wreath branches next in 839/840, preserving the circular flow and clean crossings.
- Construct foliage from each central vein outward: 934/936 for dark olive leaves, 3011/3012 for sage and muted green leaves. Keep leaf points sharp and avoid crowding the web sections.
- Finish dimensional flowers: 720/721 for rust-orange roses, 3865/822 for ivory blooms, 729/832 for mustard-gold accents, with 3012 for sage rosettes where visible. Add spiders, buds, berries and final one-strand feather/web corrections. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel. Do not flatten woven-wheel roses, padded key details, berry knots, spider bodies, or the layered crow feather texture
