About this Ghost Pumpkin Lantern Moth Garland embroidery pattern
Ghost Pumpkin Lantern Moth Garland brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central draped ghost with black oval eyes and pumpkin lantern; hanging crescent moon and five-point stars; seven moths; plum/sage wreath.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer the ghost contour, pumpkin handle/ribs, all seven moth centerlines, crossed lower stems, crescent and every pendant/star line. Stitch the main wreath stems first in 1-strand 154/3051, keeping the upper hanging lines extremely fine and straight. 2. MAIN FOCAL ELEMENT Fill the ghost in 3865 with long-and-short strokes flowing from crown to hem and into each arm; shade only lower folds and inner arm edges with 822. Add black 310 eyes last so the face stays clean and simple; keep the body flat, luminous and softly edged. 3. PUMPKIN LANTERN + CELESTIALS Shape the lantern ribs with curved vertical 3853/3854 strokes, darkest in channels and lightest on rib crowns. Work the crescent from 3829 shadow into 729/677 highlight, then build stars radially; pendant cords stay 1 strand and visually lighter than the wreath. 4. MOTHS + FOLIAGE Work moths symmetrically from black/brown bodies outward into 154/3041/3042 wing panels, with 822 only where the artwork softens to cream. Fishbone leaves in plum and sage families from stem to tip; reserve darkest 154 for lower/outer shadows. 5. SMALL DETAIL WORK Add wing veins, antennae, tiny cutouts, buds and gold dots after all fills. Use 1 strand of 310/3371 for moth detail and compact French knots in 729, occasionally 3 strands for the larger gold beads; keep tiny buds flatter than the knots. 6. FINAL DETAILS + BLOCKING Check circular balance between the two leafy sides and seven moths, then reinforce only essential dark outlines. Bury tails away from the pale ghost, straighten hanging stars/moon, preserve open negative space around the figure, and steam-block gently from the reverse
