About this Gothic Moon Gate Autumn Rose Wreath embroidery pattern

Gothic Moon Gate Autumn Rose Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Four circular lunar phases, branching rose sprays, berry knots, stars and a continuous vine wreath frame the structure. Value structure: Darkest values are the gate, arch and vine stems. Brightest values are the moon, pale roses and tiny cream stars. Embroidery approach: Establish the gate geometry first, then the moon phases, roses and foliage; finish with berries, starbursts and scattered ground details.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied PDF contains the design's DMC color suggestions and stitching guidance. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

Stitching sequence

  1. 1. Establish the ironwork: Backstitch the arch, gate posts and straight bars first; add split stitch to the heavy outlines and hinges. 2. Complete scrolls and fence: Work the ornamental curls, spear tips and side fence lattice while the fabric is still easy to rotate in the hoop. 3. Stitch the lunar crown: Fill the crescent and top moon phases with cream, beige and taupe, preserving the shadow divisions visible in the artwork. 4. Build the rose wreath: Work large rust, cream and dark-brown roses, then add fishbone leaves and the dark winding stems. 5. Add berries and tiny botanicals: Use knots for olive, charcoal and muted berry clusters; add smaller leaves in gray-green and mauve tones. 6. Finish stars and ground details: Add starbursts, tiny dots, pale seed-like stones beneath the gate, then inspect all edges and secure thread ends
