About this Haunted Cottage Ghost Pumpkin Wreath embroidery pattern

Haunted Cottage Ghost Pumpkin Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A cream haunted cottage with a deep black roof sits at center, with a small white ghost floating at left. Four pumpkins cluster across the lower foreground in rust orange, peach, dark teal and black, each with contrasting rib seams and stems. The scene is enclosed by curling blue-green vines, teal and olive leaves, rust berry knots, a bare black tree at right, two black bats, a small golden crescent and scattered stars/dots. The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer the cottage, roof planes, chimney, windows/door, ghost, pumpkin lobes, crescent, bats, tree, main vine spirals and path lines. Stem-stitch only the major 500/501 vine routes and one-strand 310 architectural guides that will remain visible. Leave twig tips, pumpkin seams, stars, berries and facial details for later. 2. MAIN FOCAL ELEMENT Stitch the cottage first. Fill walls in 3865 with 822 under the eaves, around the door and along the lower edge; keep the pale body smooth and flat. Build the roof in 310 with 3371 depth along ridges/eaves, following each slope. Add black door/window interiors after the pale fill, then finish muntins with one-strand backstitch for crisp geometry. 3. SECONDARY LARGE ELEMENT Work the four pumpkins from back to front. Use 921/920 for the tall rust pumpkin, 407/758 with 920 seams for the peach pumpkin, 501/500 with 503 highlights for the teal pumpkin, and 310/3371 with narrow 921 ribs for the black pumpkin. Curve stitches with each lobe and keep rib seams recessed rather than heavy outlines. 4. FLORALS / FOLIAGE / SUPPORTING ELEMENTS Complete the sweeping vines in 500/501, then fishbone teal leaves in 501/503 and olive/ochre leaves in 3011/3012/729 from base to tip. Stitch the right bare tree in tapered 310 lines, thickest near the lower trunk and one strand at twig ends. Keep the foliage ring open enough that the cottage silhouette remains clear. 5. SMALL DETAIL WORK Fill the ghost in 3865 with 822 tucked into lower folds, then add 310 eyes/mouth last. Satin the two bats in 310. Add 921/920 French-knot berries with consistent knot size, 3821 crescent and stars, and small sky dots. Add pumpkin stems and rib accents only after fills are complete so seams stay sharp and dimensional. 6. FINAL DETAILS + BLOCKING Refine only necessary roof edges, window bars, path lines, twig tips and vine crossings with one strand. Check that the cream cottage and pumpkin cluster share focal weight, while the ghost reads clearly but remains secondary. Secure dark tails away from pale wall/ghost areas, steam lightly from the reverse, and block the hoop circle without flattening berry knots or ridged pumpkin texture
