About this Raven Pumpkin Lunar Wreath embroidery pattern
Raven Pumpkin Lunar Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: central charcoal raven carrying a small orange jack-o'-lantern on a twisted branch, framed by olive foliage, berries, moths, moon phases, hanging stars and curled woodland stems.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- TRANSFER + STRUCTURE Transfer the full wreath, moon phases, hanging stars, branch, raven and pumpkin. Work outer stems and twisted branch contours first in one-strand 844/801 stem or split stitch. Mark feather tracts and moth wing divisions before filling so negative space stays controlled.
- RAVEN THREAD PAINTING Build crown to throat, shoulder through wing and then tail. Overlap 310/3799/413 long-and-short layers like shingles: about 20-30 degrees on neck feathers and 30-45 degrees across wing coverts. Use 317 only as sparse, narrow catches on raised feather edges.
- PUMPKIN + BRANCH RELIEF Underpad each pumpkin lobe horizontally, then thread-paint mainly in 920 with 921 on raised planes. Keep 3777 in recessed grooves and finish those grooves with one-strand split stitch. Follow the branch twist with curved 844/801/433 stem stitches, changing value at each turn.
- LEAVES + BERRIES Fishbone olive leaves in 3051/3022 and keep stems dark in 801. Build warm berries in 920/729 using compact padded satin or 2-wrap French knots. Use smaller knot sizes near branch tips so clusters taper naturally instead of forming uniform dots.
- MOTHS + LUNAR PHASES Thread-paint moth wings from body outward with 822/3865, adding restrained 3045/921 warm markings and 433 bodies. Keep antennae one strand. Satin moon phases along their curves in 729/676/3865, keeping them comparatively flat and delicate.
- HANGING STARS + FINAL FINISH Work hanging strings in one-strand backstitch, then add stars with crisp straight stitches and tiny dots with French knots. Finish the raven eye with a minute 3865 catchlight, refine only essential feather separations, bury tails under dense motifs and steam-block from the reverse
