About this Sleeping Black Cat 2 embroidery pattern

Sleeping Black Cat 2 brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Sleeping charcoal-black cat curled on a warm ivory crescent; three lunar phases above; burgundy and charcoal roses; sage-olive leaves; red berry clusters; muted brown-green vine; antique-gold botanical and star accents.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

This watermarked preview shows the transfer drawing. Clean outlines are included in the purchased pattern PDF.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

The supplied guide labels this design intermediate. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer the full cat silhouette and facial lines, crescent edges, three lunar phases, all rose groups, berry clusters, leaf pairs, scrolling stems, stars and tiny gold dots. Preserve the clean white negative space.
  2. Work the finest one-strand lines first: cat facial definition, whiskers, moon botanical sprigs, vine contours and star spokes. Keep line weights delicate around the lunar phases.
  3. Build the cat from 310 through 3799 and 317, following visible fur direction over forehead, ears, neck, forelegs, flank and curled tail. Keep gray sheen restrained so the cat reads as black.
  4. Fill the crescent and full moon in 3865/822, shaping stitches along the curved form. Add botanical sprigs, flower centers and small celestial marks in 729/3822, keeping gold accents crisp rather than dense.
  5. Complete burgundy roses and buds with 814/816, charcoal flowers with 310/3799/317, then work foliage in 934/936/3012. Build leaves from the center vein outward and curve petals toward each flower center.
  6. Finish red berries with 816/304, muted branches with 3021/3781 and any remaining gold dots with tiny knots. Recheck symmetry of the wreath and leave the moon-cat center visually dominant. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel. Do not flatten the cat fur texture, raised rose petals, berry knots, moon padding or tiny gold knots
