About this Thorn Wrapped Crescent Moon with Three Moths Hanging Stars embroidery pattern

Thorn Wrapped Crescent Moon with Three Moths Hanging Stars brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: One pale crescent wrapped in black thorny vines, threelavender moths, five hanging stars, branching gray-ivory foliage and scattered black-gold berry dots forming anopen wreath.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer and structuralframework Transfer the crescent, thorn loops, five hanging stars, three mothsand the open wreath branches. Check moon proportions, mothspacing and the major vine crossings before adding any fill.
  2. Main focal element Shade the crescent with 317/414/762/822 and a touch of 3743,following the arc from darker lower-left and inner zones towardpale outer highlights. Keep the rim smooth and reserve vinecrossings.
  3. Secondary large element Work the three moths in 3041/3042/3743/3865 with symmetricalwing direction from body outward. Add 310 antennae and 729 wingdots only after the pale fills are complete.
  4. Foliage / supporting motifs Build gray and ivory branches in 317/414/762/822/3865 using stemand fishbone stitches. Follow each branch sweep and keep theopen wreath airy rather than filling every gap.
  5. Small decorative details Lay the black thorn vine in 310 with fine stem/backstitch orcouched curves, then add 729/676 star chains and black-goldberry dots. Keep crossings clean and thorns sharply separatedfrom the moon fill.
  6. Final accents, dimensionaldetails, cleanup, andblocking Add final gold highlights, moth wing speckles and selected raisedknots. Trim long carries, confirm all five stars hang freely below thecrescent, press from the reverse and block the wreath to abalanced circle
