Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer all three ghost silhouettes, crescent, star points, bottle shoulders/labels, flag, botanical stems and the outer circle. Start with one-strand 3011 herb stems and the 317/318 flag pole/fold guides. Mark the circle clearly but leave its raised cream cord until the end so early hoop tension cannot pull it out of round. 2. MAIN FOCAL ELEMENT Fill the center ghost in 3865 using vertical-to-fanned long-and-short stitches, curving slightly through the arms and scalloped hem. Blend 822 only along the lower hem, side contour and under the raised arm. Keep the face area unstitched until the body is smooth; then add one-strand 317 eyes and smile plus the 3865/822 flag, keeping the white figure the brightest value in the hoop. 3. SECONDARY LARGE ELEMENT Stitch the left ghost in 823 with slightly shorter strokes that follow the hanging folds, using 712 for the eyes and smile. Work the right ghost in 729 with 3829 tucked into lower folds and 677 only on the upper hood/arm highlights; add its 317 face last. Satin-stitch the 823 crescent after the ghosts, following the moon curve so both horns remain crisp. 4. FLORALS / FOLIAGE / SUPPORTING ELEMENTS Build the three bottles with 930/931, 729/677/822 and 801 corks, curving stitch direction around each shoulder and base. Fishbone the olive leaves in 3012 over 3011 stems, then stack lavender florets in 3041/3042. Keep bottle highlights narrow and herbs relatively flat so the ghost trio retains depth priority. 5. SMALL DETAIL WORK Add gold and gray stars with 729/677 and 318 straight stitches radiating from clean centers. Backstitch bottle labels and fine outlines with one strand only. Place French knots in 712, 729, 318 and 823, matching knot diameter across clusters; reserve the darkest navy knots for lower balance and avoid filling every open gap. 6. FINAL DETAILS + BLOCKING Couch or whip the 712 circular border last with gentle, even tension, correcting any wobble before securing ends. Restore only broken ghost/bottle contours, check the left navy and right gold masses for equal visual weight, and make sure the white center ghost stays dominant. Secure dark tails away from light areas, steam from the reverse, then block to a true circle without flattening lavender buds or knots
