About this Witch Hat Spider with Five Skulls in a Botanical Crescent Moon embroidery pattern

Witch Hat Spider with Five Skulls in a Botanical Crescent Moon brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Large botanical crescent moon, five small charcoal skulls, green foliage, orange and ochre rosette-like flowers, cream knot clusters, and a central witch-hat spider.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 14 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer and structural framework Transfer the full crescent outline, five skulls, main stems, spider and hat. Establish 1-strand 3011/3799 structural lines first, keeping the crescent tips clean and symmetrical.
  2. Main focal element Build the central spider with 310/3799/413, directing long-and-short stitches with the body volume and keeping legs narrow. Shade the hat from crown to brim and add the warm buckle last.
  3. Secondary large element Outline the crescent and stitch the five skulls with 413/414 and 310 details. Keep each skull compact and readable before surrounding it with dense botanicals.
  4. Foliage / supporting motifs Work 3011/3012/3052 stems and leaves from the inner curve outward. Use fishbone direction along each center vein, alternating dark and light foliage to keep the crescent dimensional.
  5. Small decorative details Add 921/920 orange and 729/783 ochre woven-wheel rosettes, then place 3865/822 cream knot clusters. Keep knots distinct and avoid crowding skull faces or the crescent edge.
  6. Final accents, dimensional details, cleanup, and blocking Refine skull features, spider highlights, hat edges and the crescent contour; remove transfer marks and block gently so the open center remains smooth and the crescent retains a clean sweeping curve
