About this Black Cat on Harvest Moon embroidery pattern
Black Cat on Harvest Moon brings celestial details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: charcoal sleeping cat, golden crescent, bats, spiders, black/ivory webs, orange-gold stars and berries, and muted sage autumn foliage.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.
Printable outline preview
This watermarked preview shows the transfer drawing. Clean outlines are included in the purchased pattern PDF.
Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.
Color and stitch guidance
The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.
The supplied guide labels this design intermediate. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.

Stitching sequence
- 1. Transfer & anchors Trace the cat, crescent, webs and botanical ring lightly. Mark star centers and berry placements before stitching. 2. Fine structure first Work ivory and black web lines with 1 strand so later leaves and berries can overlap naturally. Add tiny web joins with short straight stitches. 3. Crescent moon Fill the crescent in 2-3 strands, blending Topaz Dark -> Medium -> Straw Light. Follow the curve; keep decorative orange leaves crisp on top. 4. Black cat Outline key silhouette changes with split stitch, then use short directional long-and-short stitches. Follow fur growth from head through torso, paws and tail. 5. Botanicals & accents Stem-stitch the green branches; fishbone-stitch leaves; use French knots for berries. Add stars with radiating straight stitches and eye stitches. 6. Bats, spiders & finish Satin-stitch bat bodies/wings and spider abdomens; use 1-strand straight legs. Add whiskers last, then press face-down over a towel
