About this Celestial Moth Ghosts Acorn Wreath embroidery pattern

Celestial Moth Ghosts Acorn Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Large celestial moth with warm beige wings, black outlines and moon phases; two cream ghosts; circular blue-green leafy wreath with acorns, pinecones, berries and old-gold stars.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

The supplied guide labels this design intermediate. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer the complete moth, every moon phase and star, both ghost figures, the full leafy wreath, all acorns, pinecones, berries and branch lines. Keep the moth centered and preserve the open linen around the wings.
  2. Outline the moth with 310/3799. Build the warm wing fields with 422/3032/3021 in smooth body-outward long-and-short stitch, then reinforce the black veins and scalloped borders with one-strand split or backstitch.
  3. Work the body in compact 310/3799 satin and long-and-short bands. Add moon phases in 3865/822 with clean satin edges and reserve 3021 only for subtle shadow accents so the celestial shapes remain bright.
  4. Stitch wreath branches in 502/3031 and fill leaves with 502/503/927 using base-to-tip fishbone direction. Add one-strand leaf veins last, after the fills are settled.
  5. Work acorn nuts in 921/433 with directional satin and caps in 801/3031. Build pinecones from clustered 801/433/3031 French or colonial knots, or short bullions, keeping darker texture toward the base and inner overlaps.
  6. Outline ghosts in 822/3865 with fine split/backstitch and add 310 faces. Finish 729 stars, dots and seed accents with straight stitches or tiny knots; check symmetry and reverse press over a thick towel without crushing raised pinecone texture. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel. Protect raised pinecone knots and acorn texture; keep the moth wing edges, pale moon phases, ghost outlines and blue-green leaf veins crisp
