About this Crow Moon Phases Moths embroidery pattern
Crow Moon Phases Moths brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central charcoal-black crow perched on a twisted dark branch; surrounding moon phases and hanging old-gold stars; five brown moths; rust and beige mushrooms; olive foliage; rust-red berries and seed dots in a circular woodland wreath.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.
Color and stitch guidance
The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.
The supplied guide labels this design intermediate. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.
Stitching sequence
- Transfer the crow silhouette and feather groups, twisted perch, circular berry-and-leaf wreath, all moths, moon phases, hanging stars, mushrooms and small seed dots. Preserve the negative space around the crow.
- Work the finest celestial lines first: moon outlines/divisions, hanging chains, tiny stars and small golden dots with one strand. Keep spacing even and the pale moon halves clean.
- Build the crow from darkest to lightest: 310 in deepest overlaps, 3799 through the body and wing masses, then 317 sparingly on selected feather ridges. Follow natural feather growth toward wing tips and tail.
- Stitch the twisted central perch and outer woody stems with 838/839/840, then add foliage using 934/936/3012. Work leaves from center vein outward so points stay sharp and the wreath reads as a continuous circle.
- Complete moths with 838/839/840 plus 822/3865 for cream markings. Keep wing shapes symmetrical but not rigid; use one-strand dark outlines only where the artwork visibly defines edges.
- Finish mushrooms and berries: 920/921/3778 on rust caps and berries, 822/3865/840 on beige stems/caps. Add French-knot berries, tiny seed dots and final one-strand feather, gill and antenna corrections. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel. Do not flatten layered crow feathers, padded moth bodies, mushroom caps, berry knots or the raised twisted branch
