About this Crow Moths Ferns embroidery pattern

Crow Moths Ferns brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Deep navy-black crow in flight carrying an antique gold key, six patterned moths, arching dark green and sage fern fronds, ivory/gold/taupe/gray mushroom clusters, navy berries, seed pods and scattered old-gold stars.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Printable outline preview

This watermarked preview shows the transfer drawing. Clean outlines are included in the purchased pattern PDF.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

The supplied guide labels this design intermediate. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer the full crow silhouette, key, six moths, all fern stems and leaflets, mushroom clusters, berries, seed pods and scattered stars. Mark major feather groups rather than every small feather line.
  2. Work the fine scattered stars, moth antennae and delicate stem details first with one strand. Keep these light so later satin and long-and-short stitching remains clean around them.
  3. Build the crow from the darkest mass outward: 939 in deepest overlaps, 823 through the body and wing groups, then 336 and 3750 sparingly on selected feather edges. Keep the flight direction readable.
  4. Stitch the antique key with 729/832 and reserve 833 for tiny highlights. Work moth bodies and wing outlines next, using navy and beige/gold families while preserving the visible symmetrical wing markings.
  5. Construct fern fronds from each central stem outward using 934/936 in shadowed fronds and 3011/3012 in lighter sage areas. Keep individual leaflets narrow, angled and evenly spaced.
  6. Finish mushroom clusters in 3865/822/842/839 with 832 on golden caps. Add navy berry knots, seed pods, and remaining old-gold star accents, then re-outline any lost moth or feather details with one strand. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel. Do not flatten padded mushroom caps, berry knots, moth bodies, or the layered crow feather texture

What your download contains

Your purchase opens a private Google Drive folder containing the three listed PDFs. The clean outline is inside the main pattern PDF. The gridded image reference is separate from the surface-embroidery drawing and is not a machine embroidery file or a symbol-by-symbol DMC cross-stitch key.

Download access appears after payment is confirmed, with recovery available through the purchase email. See the delivery policy for access and support details.
