About this Ghost on Golden Crescent Moon with Bats Botanicals embroidery pattern

Ghost on Golden Crescent Moon with Bats Botanicals brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A softly shaded cream ghost reclines across a warm golden crescent moon and forms the main focal pair. Black bats arc around the moon, orange and gold stars scatter through the negative space, and muted sage vines wrap the crescent with leafy tendrils. Small gold knot clusters add texture and sparkle while the linen background remains open and calm. Artwork reference - complete composition, undistorted.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer the crescent, ghost silhouette and facial marks, all bats, major green vines, leaf sprays, orange/gold stars, gold knot clusters and the hanging fine detail. Start with the moon and ghost outlines in one strand, then establish the main vine routes so the composition stays balanced and the open linen areas remain intentional. 2. GOLDEN CRESCENT MOON Fill the crescent before any foliage crossing it. Build 677 on the brightest upper planes, blend into 729 through the center, and deepen the inner hook and underside with 3820. Follow the moon arc with every long-and-short stitch. Re-establish the outer dark contour after filling without making it heavy. 3. RECLINING GHOST Fill the ghost next in 3865 and 822, following the rounded body direction from head through torso to tail. Introduce 644 only under the arms, along the belly, and at the tail underside. Keep the upper face and crown brightest. Add eyes, mouth and tiny face marks only after the fill is smooth and settled. 4. GREEN VINES + LEAF SPRAYS Stem-stitch 936/935 vines around and across the crescent, using short backstitch in the tight spirals. Work leaves in 935/3011/3012 fishbone stitch, grading lighter toward tips. Keep green crossings narrow over the moon so the golden surface stays visible and the vines read as a separate layer. 5. BLACK BATS + ORANGE STARS Satin-fill bats in 310, using 3799 only for restrained rib detail. Then work 920/921/922 orange stars as radiating straight stitches, varying point length and orientation. The bats should remain the darkest accents while the orange stars add warmth without crowding the ghost or moon. 6. GOLD KNOTS, PALE STARS + BLOCKING Finish with 729/677 gold French knots, pale gold stars, tiny sparkle dots and the hanging green detail. Mix one- and two-wrap knots for subtle scale changes. Check that the ghost is brightest, moon stays warmly dimensional, vines retain crisp curls, bats remain sharp, and the surrounding linen lies flat. Remove transfer marks and block without crushing knots
