About this Ghost Star Garland Moth Wreath embroidery pattern

Ghost Star Garland Moth Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central cream ghost with pumpkin lantern; oval botanical wreath of plum berries, sage foliage and ochre sprigs; hanging star garland; four moths; large.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer the ghost, lantern handle/ribs, outer berry branches, major leaf midribs, four moth silhouettes, curved chain garland and all star centers. Stitch 1-strand 154 main branches and 3011/3012 leaf midribs first; establish the garland in a fine neutral/plum line but leave star fills and berries until later. 2. MAIN FOCAL ELEMENT Fill the ghost in 3865 with long-and-short stitches flowing from crown toward hem and gently curving around both arms. Add 822 only below the arm folds, at the lower side planes and near the scalloped hem. Finish 310 eyes, 761 blush and the fine 154 contour after the pale fill so the face stays clean and soft. 3. WREATH + PUMPKIN LANTERN Build foliage from branch bases outward. Fishbone-fill sage leaves in 3011/3012/3013 and ochre leaves in 680/729, always base-to-tip. Add 154 berry knots last on each branch. Work the pumpkin rib-by-rib using 3740 in violet recesses, 920/680 for warm ribs and 729/3822 in the glowing star area. 4. FOUR MOTHS Work moths after nearby foliage so their wing edges sit clearly in front. Use 310/154 for deepest marks, 3740/3041/3042 for plum panels, 3011-3013 for sage panels and 680/729/3822 for gold bands. Direct stitches from thorax toward wing tips; add 1-strand veins and antennae only after all fills are smooth. 5. STAR GARLAND + SMALL DETAILS Complete the hanging stars and large side starbursts with straight stitches radiating from each center; use 680/729/3822 for gold stars and 154/3740/3041 for plum stars. Refine the curved chain with tiny even backstitches and couch only long sagging spans. Add remaining berry highlights and tiny moth spots last. 6. FINAL DETAILS + BLOCKING Check wreath symmetry, moth spacing, star-garland arc and the open negative space around the ghost. The ghost should remain the largest light mass; plum branches provide structure; gold is the bright accent, not a blanket fill. Bury dark tails away from 3865 areas, relax any puckered knots, then steam-block gently from the reverse
