About this Ghosts Rising from embroidery pattern

Ghosts Rising from brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Deep plum pointed witch hat with gold celestial embroidery, five ivory ghost spirits rising through plum-gray swirls, sage ivy leaves, dark purple berry clusters, gold curling vines, moon phases, stars and two small black bats.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Printable outline preview

This watermarked preview shows the transfer drawing. Clean outlines are included in the purchased pattern PDF.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

The supplied guide labels this design intermediate. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer the full hat silhouette, five ghosts, large spirit curls, ivy stems/leaves, berry clusters, vines, moons, stars and two bats. Mark the hat celestial pattern lightly.
  2. Work the gold framework first: 729 for curling vines and most hat constellations, then 677 for bright stars, dots and berry centers. Keep these accents to one strand.
  3. Build the witch hat with 154 as the deep base and 3740 as selective fold/highlight color. Follow brim and crown contours so the hat reads dimensional rather than flat.
  4. Stitch the five ghosts in 3865, feathering 822 into the inner curves and lower tails. Add faces last in one-strand 310 to keep expressions crisp and small.
  5. Shape the surrounding spirit swirls with 3740 and 3041 using curved stem/split lines. Keep the lines parallel and flowing into the ghosts without crowding their white edges.
  6. Finish ivy with 3051/3052/3053, berry clusters with 550/552, moons with 318/414, then add the two small bats and black celestial crosses in 310. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel. Avoid crushing berry knots or flattening the raised hat and ghost texture
