The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

This watermarked preview shows the transfer drawing. Clean outlines are included in the purchased pattern PDF.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. Map the framework Backstitch the window outline, hanging cords, crescent shapes, star centers and the finest branch paths.
  2. Build the stone arch Use split stitch for crisp edges and short directional fills for individual stone blocks; keep lancet openings open.
  3. Stitch all four moths Complete the top and lower moths first, then the two side moths. Work cream wing fields before burgundy and copper details.
  4. Add the ivy wreath Fishbone-stitch the ivy leaves in deep and medium greens, changing angle at each lobe to preserve leaf structure.
  5. Work berries and accents Add rust berries, burgundy leaves, branch tips, small stars and warm gold knots without overfilling the negative space.
  6. Finish highlights Add moon highlights, star points and final stone glints. Check outlines, remove visible travel threads and secure backs
