About this Moonlit Haunted House embroidery pattern

Moonlit Haunted House brings celestial details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central snow globe with haunted house, bare trees, wind-swirled sky and ornate gold stand; moon phases and stars; pumpkins, twin lanterns, dark berries, curling branches and autumn leaves.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 CM HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Color and stitch guidance

The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.

Stitching sequence

  1. 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURE Transfer the globe circle, stand, mansion silhouette, main tree trunks and lantern frames first. Add moon phases, pumpkins and the large branch ring next; mark tiny berries, stars and fine curls last. 2. HOUSE + TREES Use one strand of 310 for the mansion, windows, tree trunks and fine branches so the focal silhouette stays sharp. Add 3799 only on softened edges or where the black needs a gentler transition. 3. GLOBE SKY + GROUND Build the wind-swirled sky in directional long-and-short using 317 into 318, leaving 3865 for the brightest cloud and ground areas. Follow every spiral curve so the movement remains visible. 4. GOLD BASE + CELESTIALS Pad the stand lightly, then cover with 3829/680 and lift scroll highlights with 729. Satin the moon phases in 729 with 680 shadows and 3865 on the palest center; use 729 straight stitches for stars. 5. PUMPKINS + LANTERNS Shape orange pumpkins with 920, brighten ridges with 922 and deepen grooves/stems with 801/938. Work lantern frames in 844/310, then add 3829/729 to metal and tiny warm glass details. 6. WREATH + BERRIES + FINISH Stem stitch branches in 801/420 before foliage. Fishbone orange leaves in 920/922 and dark leaves in 3799/844/3031. Build black berries with 310 padded satin/French knots; finish rays, veins and curls in one strand. FINISHING & PRESSING NOTES Keep the globe edge smooth and circular, and preserve open linen between wreath elements. Press from the reverse over a padded towel so raised berries, pumpkins and the ornate stand keep their relief
