About this Pumpkin House Ghosts Moon Wreath embroidery pattern

Pumpkin House Ghosts Moon Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A large peach-orange pumpkin house dominates the center, with a dark arched frame, golden-brown door and small hanging lantern. Gray smoke curls upward from its stem. Two cream ghosts flank the pumpkin, while four smaller pumpkins sit at the base. Above are a textured gold crescent moon and two charcoal bats. A circular dark-vine wreath carries rust oak leaves, dark leaves, rust and gray berries, scattered gold stars, lower spiderwebs and three spiders, including a prominent gold spider at bottom center. Artwork reference - complete composition, undistorted.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer the large pumpkin ribs, arched doorway, door window, lantern, stem and smoke path; both ghosts and bats; four small pumpkins; crescent; circular vines, berries, leaves, stars, webs and all three spiders. Stitch the 3799 vine ring and one-strand 310 web spokes first so the circular scaffold remains clean. 2. MAIN FOCAL ELEMENT Fill the pumpkin house with 3777/920/921/922 in curved vertical rib bands. Keep 3777 in grooves and beneath the stem, 921 as the main body and 922 on selective rib crowns. Add the 3799/310 doorway surround, then build the 3829/729/420 door vertically; window and knob details go last. 3. SECONDARY LARGE ELEMENT Work the 3829/729/680 crescent above the smoke, following its arc and keeping the inner edge crisp. Stitch both bats in 3799/413/310 from body outward through the wings, with folds kept dark and flat. Build the 414/415 smoke after the pumpkin stem, following the continuous upward S-curve without hard outlines. 4. GHOSTS + FOLIAGE + SIDE PUMPKINS Shade both ghosts with 3865/712, directing stitches from head into the tapering body; keep facial details for later. Fill orange side pumpkins with 3777/920/921 and ivory pumpkins with 712/3865. Add rust leaves in 921/922 and dark leaves in 3799/413 using fishbone direction from base to tip. 5. SMALL DETAIL WORK Add rust berries in 3777/920/921 and gray berries in 413/414/415, keeping cluster sizes consistent. Work stars in 729 with short radiating straight stitches. Complete webs with one-strand 310, then stitch side spiders and the bottom gold spider in 310/3829/680; add ghost faces and lantern bars last. 6. FINAL DETAILS + BLOCKING Check that the pumpkin house remains the dominant warm mass, bats and vine ring stay dark but airy, ghosts read as pale side accents and the gold crescent balances the lower gold spider. Refine door edges, berry spacing, web symmetry and lantern alignment, bury tails away from open ivory areas, then steam from the reverse and block flat
