About this Raven Bats embroidery pattern
Raven Bats brings celestial and gothic details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central raven perched on a twisting leafless branch, four pale taupe spiderwebs framing the hoop, three mauve-purple bats plus one small black bat, scattered stitched stars and tiny dot accents.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.
Color and stitch guidance
The supplied guide proposes 15 DMC colors. Compare important shades with real floss under your working light.
The supplied guide labels this design intermediate. Allow time for controlled spacing and detailed areas.
Stitching sequence
- Transfer the raven, full branch skeleton, four spiderwebs, all bats, stars and tiny dot accents. Mark web intersections lightly so spacing stays consistent.
- Work the main tree and perch first. Use 3799/413 for the dark structure, then layer 414 and 451 in curved stem/split stitches that follow the branch twist.
- Stitch the raven from darkest to lightest: 310 for the deepest silhouette, then 3799, 413, 317 and selected 318 highlights. Change stitch angle at wing, breast and tail boundaries.
- Build each spiderweb one radial at a time with 452, then connect the curved bands. Add 453/3866 only as restrained highlights; avoid pulling the fabric inward.
- Outline and fill the mauve bats with 3740, 3041, 3042 and 3743. Keep the small black bat compact in 310 so it reads as a separate silhouette.
- Finish with one-strand stars and dots in 3022/318/3866. Check that celestial details stay lighter than the raven and do not crowd the web lines. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel. Do not flatten dense raven feathers or distort the fine spiderweb spokes
