About this Reading Ghost Pumpkins Spellbooks embroidery pattern
Reading Ghost Pumpkins Spellbooks brings celestial and witchy details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A central smiling ghost reads a purple spellbook beneath a black bat. Four orange pumpkins, two purple witch hats, floating black/gold/rust/purple stars, olive and blue-gray leaves, curling brown vines, a three-book stack labeled SPOOKS / POTIONS / LORE, and a small dark cauldron complete the circular composition.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer ghost/book, bat, pumpkin silhouettes, book stack, cauldron, hats, leaf stems and major vine arcs. Start with 801/3011 stem scaffolding and fine 310 outlines where needed; leave star points, book lettering and facial details for later. 2. MAIN FOCAL ELEMENT Fill the ghost in 3865 with 822 tucked into the lower hem, sleeve folds and under-book shadow. Keep stitches vertical/fanned and smooth. Work the purple spellbook in 552 with 550 in the spine/undersides and 554 on upper planes; add 729 crescent only after the purple fill is settled. 3. SECONDARY LARGE ELEMENT Stitch all four pumpkins lobe by lobe with 921, shading grooves with 920 and placing 922 on the light-facing crowns/outer lobes. Use 3011 for stems and 801 for tendrils. Keep the lobe ridges rounded rather than striped. 4. FLORALS / FOLIAGE / SUPPORTING ELEMENTS Fishbone the olive leaves with 3012/3013 and the blue-gray leaves with 926, pointing every stitch from vein toward edge. Work hats in 552/550 and the book stack with 921, 3012, 310 and 729. Keep foliage flatter than the ghost and pumpkins. 5. SMALL DETAIL WORK Add black bat and black stars in 310, gold stars in 729, rust stars in 920 and the purple star in 554. Backstitch book labels/symbols with one strand, then add the ghost face in 3371/310. Finish pumpkin curls, leaf veins and cauldron feet last. 6. FINAL DETAILS + BLOCKING Balance star spacing and pumpkin highlights around the hoop, then clean any heavy outlines so the ghost remains dominant. Secure tails away from pale ghost areas. Steam block face-down over a towel, restoring the circular composition without flattening raised pumpkin or book accents
