About this Sleeping Black Cat embroidery pattern
Sleeping Black Cat brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Sleeping black cat curled on a cream crescent moon; AUTUMN AWAKENING lettering; twin burnt-orange pumpkins; ivy, sage leaves, acorns, blackberries, bats and small stars arranged as a circular autumn wreath.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 CM HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURE Transfer the crescent, cat silhouette and AUTUMN AWAKENING lettering first. Add the wreath stems, ivy blocks and pumpkin shapes next; mark berries, acorns, bats and stars last. 2. LETTERING + CRESCENT Work the lettering in one strand of 310 using neat backstitch or whipped backstitch. Fill the crescent with 822 and 3865 long-and-short, shade softly with 3782 and outline the lower curve selectively in 3860. 3. SLEEPING BLACK CAT Build the cat in directional long-and-short: 310 for the main mass and 3799 only where fur direction needs separation. Use split stitch around ears, paws, tail and face; keep the closed eye and whisker accents crisp. 4. PUMPKINS + ACORNS Model both pumpkins with 920 through the body and 922 on raised ridges, reserving 801 for deep grooves. Satin acorns in 420/801 and texture the caps with compact French knots or short crossing stitches. 5. IVY + SAGE FOLIAGE Fishbone ivy in 3011/3012 and sage leaves in 3051/3052. Stem stitch all tendrils, following each curl continuously so the wreath stays light, botanical and clearly directional. 6. BLACKBERRIES + BATS + STARS Build blackberries from clustered French knots in 310 with restrained 154 undertones. Keep bats solid and tiny in 310; use 3782/3865 straight stitches for stars and small neutral dots. FINISHING & PRESSING NOTES Preserve the ivory negative space between the crescent, cat and botanical ring. Press from the reverse over a padded towel so blackberry knots, acorn caps and pumpkin ridges retain their relief
