About this Sleeping Ghost Crescent Bats Autumn Wreath embroidery pattern

Sleeping Ghost Crescent Bats Autumn Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A curled sleeping ivory ghost rests inside a warm ochre-gold crescent. Three black bats orbit the focal pair. Sage and gray-green leaves, an orange maple leaf, orange berries, teal and gold starbursts, purple botanical accents and a violet star pendant form the surrounding wreath. A small black pumpkin anchors the lower center, with curling tendrils in green, teal, gold and purple. Artwork reference - complete composition, undistorted.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURE Transfer the crescent, sleeping ghost, three bats, black pumpkin, star pendant, large maple leaf, major foliage stems and the largest stars. Leave the smallest dots and curls unmarked until the large forms are stitched. Establish 3799 structural outlines and 3051 main stems first so the wreath keeps its open circular rhythm. 2. GOLDEN CRESCENT + GHOST Shade the crescent from 780 at the deepest outer and lower curve through 729 to 3820 near the inner edge and tips, keeping stitches tangent to the arc. Fill the ghost in 3865 with rounded stitch flow, add restrained 822 fold shadows, then work the sleepy 310/3799 face last so the expression stays clean and delicate. 3. BATS + BLACK PUMPKIN Complete all three bats in 310 with short satin stitches that pivot across each wing; use 3799 only where a softer contour is needed. Stitch the lower pumpkin in curved 310 satin columns to suggest ribs, then add its stem and curl. These black shapes should punctuate the wreath without becoming larger than the central moon-and-ghost focal pair. 4. AUTUMN LEAF + BERRIES Work the upper maple leaf with 920 in folds and central vein shadows, 921 through most lobes and 922 at the outer tips. Stitch orange berries in 921/922 with 920 at the base or center. Keep the leaf flatter than the berries so the knots provide the strongest raised orange accents. 5. FOLIAGE + PURPLE PENDANT Build sage foliage with 3051/3052/3053 fishbone leaves and fine 3051 stems. Outline the pendant chain in 3799, then fill the hanging star with 550 in the deepest points and 552 through the center. Add the purple petals and tendrils in 552, keeping their density lighter than the surrounding foliage. 6. STARS, CURLS + FINAL BALANCE Add teal starbursts and curls in 924, gold stars and dots in 729/3820, and remaining violet accents in 550/552. Place the smallest dots only after checking the full composition from arm's length. Refine outlines, remove transfer marks and block from the reverse over padding so the ghost and moon stay smooth while berries retain their raised texture
