About this Witch's Broom with Sleeping Black Cat Mushrooms and Crescent Wreath embroidery pattern

Witch's Broom with Sleeping Black Cat Mushrooms and Crescent Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central witch broom tied with a beige polka-dot bow, lavender crystals behind it, crescent moon with hanging spider above, two bats, sleeping dark cat below, and a circular woodland wreath of mushrooms, pinecones, acorns, berries and muted lavender-sage foliage.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer and structural frameworkTransfer the broom axis, bow, crescent, spider line, bat positions, cat silhouette, major crystal points and the circular mushroom-botanical wreath. Establish 310/3371 single-strand contours only where necessary, leaving room for later satin and long-and-short fills.
  2. Main focal element Work the central broom first with 832/833 through the handle and bristles, following the grain vertically and fanning stitches through the lower sweep. Add 834 highlights sparingly, then build the bow in 822/3864 with 3865 French-knot dots so the ribbon sits cleanly in front of the broom and crystal cluster.
  3. Secondary large element Stitch the sleeping cat next in 939, directing fur with the curled body and using 310 only for the deepest separations, ears, closed eyes and tiny nose. Build the lavender crystal cluster behind the bow with 3740/3041/3042/3743, keeping facets directional and reserving the palest tone for edge glints.
  4. Foliage / supporting motifs Construct the circular wreath from 3021/3023 stems and leaves, blending 3041/3042 lavender foliage with selected 939 dark leaf groups. Add mushrooms in 3740/3041/3042 with 822/3864 stems, plus 3371/3021 pinecones and acorns, keeping the lower clusters visually heavier than the top.
  5. Small decorative details Complete the crescent in 3743 with 3042 shadowing, then stitch the hanging spider and both bats in 310 with crisp single-strand linework. Add 939 berries, 3865 mushroom spots and pale seed clusters only after the main cap fills are secure so knots stay raised and evenly spaced.
  6. Final accents, dimensional details, cleanup, and blocking Place final 3865 crystal glints, ribbon dots and tiny mushroom highlights, then reinforce only the nearest broom fibers, cat face marks and bat wing corners. Check wreath symmetry, cap spot spacing and strand height before gently blocking from the reverse so knots, bow and broom bristles retain dimension
