About this Antique Lantern Three Moths Botanical Night Wreath embroidery pattern
Antique Lantern Three Moths Botanical Night Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A large antique oil lantern with glowing amber flame anchors the center. Three richly patterned moths orbit it. Warm taupe smoke rises in curling ribbons behind the lantern, while olive foliage, rust sprigs, berries, thistle-like flower heads, fern, stars, dots and a top crescent form a full woodland-night wreath. Artwork reference - complete composition, undistorted.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer the lantern, three moths, major foliage arcs, smoke ribbons, crescent and bottom thorn branches. Establish the lantern and moth body outlines in one-strand 3371/310 split stitch. Lay the principal olive stems in 730/732 and the thorn frame in 3371/938. Leave stars, berries, wing dots and tiny sigil details until later. 2. CENTRAL LANTERN Build the lantern as the darkest, most dimensional focal mass. Start with 938/801 in the recessed base, cap and frame joints, then move through 433 to 920/921 on warm raised edges. Follow every bevel and curve with stitch direction. Sharpen the central pentagram medallion only after surrounding fills are complete. 3. GLASS + FLAME + SMOKE Keep the glass chamber mostly open. Shape the flame vertically from 918 at the inner base through 920/921 to 3822 at the center. Add a few 3024 glass glints. Then work the smoke behind the lantern in loose one-strand 3023/3024 curves, keeping lines separated so the ribbons feel airy and translucent. 4. THREE MOTHS Work each moth from body outward using 3371/310 for structure, 730/732/734 for olive wing fields, 918/920/921 for rust bands and 3822/3865 for pale spots and faces. Keep the left and upper-right moths slightly crisper than the lower-right moth so the orbit feels natural rather than mechanically repeated. 5. BOTANICAL WREATH Complete the olive leaves and lower-left fern in 730/732/734, following midribs and stem direction. Add rust sprigs, berries and thistle-like flower heads in 918/920/921 with compact knot or straight-stitch texture. Keep outer foliage lighter and less densely outlined than the central lantern. 6. MOON + STARS + FINAL DETAIL Satin-stitch the top crescent in 920/921, then add 310 black stars, 729/3822 warm stars and dots, berry highlights, moth antennae and the bottom rust sigil. Refine only the deepest 3371/938 seams. Remove transfer residue and block from the reverse so the smoke, knots and raised flower heads remain dimensional
