About this Autumn Lantern Moths Botanical Wreath embroidery pattern
Autumn Lantern Moths Botanical Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A warm copper-brown lantern is the central focal point, with a softly glowing cream glass center. Four large moths and one small lower moth circle it. An oval botanical wreath of olive and sage leaves carries rust berries, acorns, pinecones and curling dark stems, with tiny stars, dots and a crescent moon filling the negative space. Artwork reference - complete composition, undistorted.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- PHASES 1. TRANSFER + WREATH SKELETON Transfer the lantern, five moths, main oval branches, leaf centers, larger berries/acorns/pinecones, crescent and only the principal stars. Establish one-strand 3371/801 stem lines around the wreath and a clean split-stitch lantern frame. Leave tiny dots, antennae and most internal wing marks unstitched. 2. CENTRAL LANTERN Build the lantern first so it controls the value hierarchy. Fill copper roof, body bars and base in 920/921/922, blending 801/433 into shaded seams. Keep strokes aligned to each metal plane. Shade glass lightly with 738/3865 and 729/3829 near the edges, leaving the center visibly brighter than the frame. 3. LARGE MOTHS Complete the four large moths from darkest wing structure to pale patterning. Use 310/3371 for edge divisions, 934/935/936 and 3011/3012 for green fields, then 738/3829/729 and copper accents for bands and eye spots. Follow wing veins outward from each body; add antennae only after all wing filling is secure. 4. FOLIAGE + BOTANICAL FRAME Work the wreath clockwise so leaf direction remains consistent. Use 934/935/936 fishbone for deep olive leaves and 3011/3012 for lighter sage tips. Keep the oval open and airy around the moths. Reinforce selected stems in 3371/801, then add small sprigs without thickening the outline into a solid border. 5. BERRIES, ACORNS + PINECONES Add rust berries in 920/921/922 with padded satin or compact French knots. Build acorns with 433/801 nut bodies and dark textured caps. Layer pinecones from the base upward using detached-chain or short straight stitches in 3371/801/433 with 3829 highlights. Stitch the small lower moth after these dense accents. 6. STARS, CRESCENT + FINAL DETAIL Place the crescent and gold starbursts in 3829/729, then add dark and copper stars, isolated dots, curls and moth antennae. Keep these final marks sparse so the white fabric remains visible. Sharpen lantern corners and wing eye spots, remove transfer residue, and block from the reverse over a soft towel to protect raised fruit and cone texture
