About this Autumn Moth Moon embroidery pattern
Autumn Moth Moon brings celestial details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Central celestial moth with rust-and-taupe wings, crescent/moon phases, corner spiderwebs, autumn pumpkins and gourds, burgundy leaves, muted olive vines, berries and scattered gold stars.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 CM HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- 1. TRANSFER + SYMMETRY Center the moth first, align its body vertically, then mark the upper moon phases and both spiderweb corners. Place the bottom pumpkin cluster before adding side vines so the wreath stays balanced. 2. MOTH OUTLINES + BODY Establish the wing silhouette in 3799/3371 with one-strand back or split stitch. Build the thorax and abdomen in 938/839 using short directional stitches; keep antennae and legs fine and tapered. 3. RUST UPPER WINGS Shade upper wings from 920 into 921 and 922, following the wing veins from body outward. Keep cream moon/eye markings clean with 822/3865 and use 3799 only in the deepest eye centers and border seams. 4. TAUPE LOWER WINGS Blend 839, 840 and 841 in curved long-and-short rows. Reserve 822 for pale rings and 3799/3371 for dark circular centers. Add fine vein lines after the fill so they remain visible. 5. PUMPKINS + BOTANICALS Work pumpkins and gourds with 920/921/922, laying darker rib grooves first and brighter stitches on raised lobes. Use 3011/3012 for olive leaves and stems; 3857 for burgundy leaves and berry shadows. 6. CELESTIAL + WEB FINISH Satin the moon discs in 822/3865 with subtle 841 shadowing. Backstitch spiderwebs in 3799 with one strand and even spacing. Finish stars and tiny speckles in 729, then add berry knots and small rust buds last. FINISHING & PRESSING NOTES Press from the reverse over a padded towel. Protect padded pumpkin ribs and moth eyespots, and avoid crushing French-knot berries. Re-block the hoop so both spiderweb arcs remain symmetrical
