About this Black Cat on Silver Crescent with Roses Moths and Woodland Mushrooms embroidery pattern

Black Cat on Silver Crescent with Roses Moths and Woodland Mushrooms brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Seated black cat on a silver crescent, crowned roses and berries, paired moths, bramble oval, sage/dark ferns, mushrooms, chanterelles, crystals, and gold stars.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. Transfer and structural frameworkTransfer the cat, silver crescent, bramble oval, fern stems, mushroom clusters, roses, moths, and crystal outlines first. Establish the bramble ring with 898 stem stitch and mark the cat silhouette in 310 using 1 strand so the dense center remains clean against the pale moon.
  2. Main focal element Stitch the black cat before surrounding foliage. Build 939 midtones over the torso and tail with short fur-following long-and-short stitches, deepen the belly, paws, ears, and tail base with 310, then add sparse 3750 cool highlights along the spine, cheek, shoulder, and tail edge. Keep the face and white whisker marks until the body is fully shaped.
  3. Secondary large element Fill the crescent moon behind the cat with 415 in the shadowed interior, 762 through the broad middle, and 3865 on the bright outer rim. Work curved rows that echo the crescent shape, leaving small crater circles readable; stitch the moon before the cat whiskers so light details stay crisp.
  4. Foliage / supporting motifs Work the top roses, berry sprays, ferns, and leaf clusters from back to front. Use 934 for the near-black right fern and dark leaves, 3052 for the sage left fern and lighter foliage, and 3011 for warm olive transitions. Build rose centers densely with 154/315, moving outward into lighter petal turns and keeping the leaf veins visible.
  5. Small decorative details Complete mushroom groups, chanterelles, moths, crystals, and berry knots. Deep wine caps use 154 with 315 highlights; pale stems use 762/3865 with 898 speckled outlines. Shade chanterelles from 433 into 436, then add moth markings with 315/898 and crystal facet lines in 436 with 762 highlights.
  6. Final accents, dimensional details, cleanup, and blocking Add 3820 radial stars and the tiny upper crescent, then place 3865 cat whiskers, ear glints, and tiny eye highlights last. Reinforce only the strongest 310 silhouette edges, trim any stray carry threads behind the light moon, and block from the reverse so the bramble oval and fern arcs remain symmetrical
