About this Celestial Autumn Moth embroidery pattern
Celestial Autumn Moth brings celestial details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Needles: No. 9-10 webs, stars and moth details; No. 7-9 wings/leaves; No. 5-7 textured pine cones, acorns and raised body accents. Strands: 1 webs/stars/antennae/veins; 1-2 wing shading and foliage; 2-3 pine-cone scales, acorn caps and selected body texture. Motifs: A dark celestial moth with moon phases, framed by spiderweb corners, maple/oak leaves, pine sprigs, pine cones, acorns and gold.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 CM HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- 1. TRANSFER + SYMMETRY Transfer the moth first, checking the left/right wing span and body centerline. Add the lower maple leaves and side foliage next, then web corners, pine cones, acorns and scattered celestial details so the wreath remains balanced. 2. WEBS, SPIDERS + FINE LINES Work web rays and arcs with one strand of 310 using short backstitch or fine stem stitch; keep every line light and even. Stitch tiny spiders last so their legs stay crisp and do not merge into the web. 3. MOTH DARK WINGS Lay 310 and 3799 long-and-short stitches in the upper wings, following each wing segment rather than filling horizontally. Introduce 414 toward soft edges. Use one strand for internal veins and keep the outer silhouette clean but not heavy. 4. LOWER WINGS + CELESTIAL MARKS Shade lower wings from 3799 through 414/318 with narrow 3865 highlights. Satin-stitch moon phases and round celestial spots with 729 plus 920/921 where copper is visible; keep all symbols sharply separated from the dark ground. 5. BODY + ANTENNAE Build the body with 3371/938/801, using compact split or padded satin stitches. Add warm 977/729 bands only where seen. Work antennae last with one strand and light tension so each branch remains delicate. 6. AUTUMN WREATH + FINISHING Fishbone maple/oak leaves with 920/921, 975 and 977. Straight-stitch pine needles in 3051/3052 from twig outward. Texture pine cones and acorn caps in 3371/938/801, then finish with 729 stars and French-knot dots. FINISHING & PRESSING NOTES Keep the ivory ground visible around the moth and celestial dots. Press from the reverse over a padded towel so pine-cone scales, acorn caps and body texture stay raised while web lines and wing fills remain smooth
