About this Celestial Crescent Moon Stars Botanical Swirls embroidery pattern
Celestial Crescent Moon Stars Botanical Swirls brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: remain legible. Transfer the crescent edge, main thorny branches, larger leaves and major spiral clouds first; add the smallest stars, dots and berries only after the core composition is stable. Needles: #9-10 crewel for one-strand outlines, thorns, star rays, berry stems and fine spirals; #7-8 crewel for navy moon fills, olive leaves and denser scrollwork. A sharp needle helps keep the tiny internal moon ornaments, pointed leaves and star centers crisp without widening the weave. Strands: 1 strand for crescent outlines, internal filigree, thorn branches, star rays, small spirals and berry stems; 2 strands for most moon filling, leaves, larger cloud curls and berry clusters; 3 strands only for selected padded moon highlights or dimensional knots if a slightly raised finish is desired. Motifs: A deep navy crescent moon dominates the center, filled with pale stars, dotted borders and curling celestial filigree. Dark thorny branches weave around it with olive-gold leaves and navy berries. Pale gray and warm gold wind-scrolls, silver starbursts and scattered dots create a luminous celestial field around the crescent. Artwork reference - complete composition, undistorted.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- PHASES 1. TRANSFER + PRIMARY STRUCTURE Transfer the full crescent silhouette, major thorn branches, large leaf groups and the broad spiral-cloud paths. Establish the crescent edge in one-strand 823 split stitch and the surrounding thorn framework in 3371/310 stem stitch. Do not transfer every tiny dot; mark only the largest stars and berry clusters at this stage. 2. DEEP NAVY CRESCENT Fill the crescent first because it is the visual anchor. Use 823 along the outer edge and deepest lower curve, blending 336 and small touches of 3750 toward selected inner areas. Direct long-and-short stitches along the crescent curvature. Keep the inner hollow edge especially clean so the pale filigree will read sharply later. 3. MOON FILIGREE + STARS Add the internal crescent ornament after the blue fill is complete. Work pale curls and dotted borders in 3865/932, cool accents in 415/318, and warm star motifs in 729/3822. Use one strand whenever possible. Keep the largest lower star crisp and centered, with short rays radiating cleanly from its core. 4. THORNS + BOTANICALS Complete the encircling thorn branches in 3371/310, then fill leaves with 3011/3012/3013 fishbone stitches aligned to each midrib. Add navy berries in 823/336 with compact satin or French knots. Let branch crossings overlap the moon edge selectively so the wreath feels woven through the celestial form. 5. WIND SCROLLS + OUTER STARS Build the pale spiral clouds in 415/318/932, following each curl from center outward and leaving visible fabric channels between paired contours. Add selected warm parallel lines in 729/3822. Stitch the larger outer starbursts next, alternating cool silver-gray and warm gold so the field remains balanced. 6. CELESTIAL DUST + BLOCKING Add the smallest dots, short rays, berry tips and isolated sparkles last. Use 3865 only for the brightest moon details and 3822 sparingly for warm glints. Check that the crescent remains dominant, erase transfer residue, and block from the reverse over a soft towel so knots and dense navy fill retain their relief
