About this Celestial Luna Moth with Moon Phases and Constellation Wreath embroidery pattern
Celestial Luna Moth with Moon Phases and Constellation Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Large central luna-style moth, moon-phase arcs above and below, constellations, starbursts, scrolling clouds and scattered gold bead-like accents.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- Transfer and structural frameworkCenter the moth first, then trace the outer wing silhouette, main vein paths, antennae, top and bottom moon arcs, constellation anchors and cloud curls. Establish only the essential structure with 3021 in 1 strand so the finished outlines stay delicate.
- Main focal element Fill the upper wings from the outer edge inward using 154, 3740 and 3041 in 2 strands. Follow the long wing span, keep the darkest plum at the perimeter and vein bases, and reserve lighter violet touches near the center so the gold crescents stay visually crisp.
- Secondary large element Model the lower wings and body with 3799, 413, 414 and 935. Work long-and-short stitches in feather-like bands that follow each lobe; keep the black-gray rim strongest along the bottom edge and place paler gray highlights toward the central body.
- Foliage / supporting motifs Stitch the cloud scrolls and moon-phase framework next. Use 3865 and 3023 for pale cloud relief, then 739, 422 and 420 for the warm lunar arcs, keeping stitch direction tangent to each crescent so every phase reads as a clean circular form.
- Small decorative details Add constellations, stars, gold dots and wing ornaments after the major fills are stable. Use 1 strand for constellation connectors, short radial straight stitches for starbursts, and French knots in 420/680 for the raised bead effect around the wings and moon arcs.
- Final accents, dimensional details, cleanup, and blocking Reinforce selected wing veins with 1 strand 154 or 3021, brighten moon tips with 3865, and place the final gold knots only after all pressing is complete. Block from the reverse so the moth stays flat and symmetrical while the knots remain dimensional
