About this Celestial Moth embroidery pattern
Celestial Moth brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Celestial moth, roses, berries, leafy circular wreath.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.
Printable outline preview
This watermarked preview shows the transfer drawing. Clean outlines are included in the purchased pattern PDF.
Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- Transfer only the visible design lines; keep the circular spacing and open ivory ground.
- Work dark green vines first in 1-2 strand stem stitch, then fishbone leaves from base to tip.
- Build roses with woven wheel stitch; add darker burgundy/copper at petal bases for depth.
- Outline the moth with split stitch. Fill black and burgundy wing areas with directional long-and-short or satin.
- Add cream moons, dots and stars last so they stay bright; use padded satin and firm French knots.
- Finish berries, antennae and tiny gold accents. Keep knot sizes varied but controlled to match the artwork. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel; do not crush woven roses or French knots
