About this Crescent Moon Four Bats Thorned Botanical Wreath embroidery pattern

Crescent Moon Four Bats Thorned Botanical Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A softly shaded ivory crescent sits high in the center and is crossed by a black thorned circular wreath. Four bats - two black and two soft gray - occupy the open field. Cool gray-green and violet leaves, plum/ivory berry clusters, warm tan-gold stars and scattered cream/gold knots create the delicate botanical night-sky frame. Artwork reference - complete composition, undistorted.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + BLACK FRAME Transfer the crescent, four bats, entire thorn wreath, all major leaf and berry sprigs and the larger stars. Stitch the circular 310 framework first with one strand so its rhythm stays continuous. Add the thorns after the main branch is stable, but leave all small knots and scattered dot accents for the final phase. 2. IVORY CRESCENT Complete the moon before stitching the vine where it crosses the crescent. Lay 822 in the inner and lower shadow planes and 3865 over the brightest central and outer areas, with restrained 3822 warmth on selected ridges. Keep long-and-short stitches following the crescent arc and avoid overpacking the fabric. 3. FOUR BATS Work the upper and lower silhouettes in 310, preserving the sharp wing scallops. Build the left and right bats with 3799/413/318 so they read clearly lighter than the black pair. Direct stitches from each compact body outward through the wing sections; keep outlines thin and crisp. 4. LEAF SPRIGS Populate the wreath with 520/522, 3052/3053, 413/318 and 154/3740/3041 according to the visible green, gray and violet leaf groups. Use fishbone stitch centered on each midrib. Maintain irregular spacing and value changes so the botanical ring remains airy rather than forming a solid band. 5. BERRIES + STARS Add plum berry clusters in 154/3740/3041 and cream clusters in 822/3865. Then place the warm 422/729 and pale 3822/3865 starbursts, using short radial straight stitches. Keep berry knots slightly more raised than the stars, and preserve clean linen between every cluster. 6. DOTS, CROSSINGS + BLOCKING Finish with scattered 729/3822/822/3865 French knots and any tiny violet dots. Check all wreath crossings around the crescent so the black thorn line sits visibly above the moon where shown. Remove transfer marks, loosen any puckered knot area from the reverse, and block gently until the exposed linen lies perfectly flat
