About this Crow with Skeleton Key embroidery pattern
Crow with Skeleton Key brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: Black crow in flight carrying a gold skeleton key, arcing black spiderwebs with small spiders, rust-copper roses and buds, olive foliage, brown stems and berries, and scattered old-gold stars.
The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size
The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.
A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence
- Transfer the full crow silhouette, key, spiderweb arcs, spiders, rose heads and buds, stems, leaves, berries and all scattered stars. Mark feather groups rather than every tiny stitch.
- Work the spiderwebs and spiders first in 310 so later floral stitching does not snag them. Keep web lines to one strand and preserve even spacing between each connecting arc.
- Build the crow from the deepest black mass outward: 310 for the body, then 3799 and 413 for cool feather separation. Add 3371 and 938 sparingly along selected wing and body feather lines.
- Stitch the skeleton key in 729 and 832, then place 833 only on the upper edges and small reflective details. Keep the key crisp so it remains readable against the dark beak.
- Construct roses and buds from 3777 centers through 918/919 to 920 on outer petals. Work each petal independently so the spiral structure remains dimensional and clean.
- Finish foliage with 3011/3012/3013, branch lines with 938, then add berry knots and scattered gold stars. Re-outline any lost crow feather separations with one-strand 3799 or 3371. FINISHING: Steam from the reverse over a towel. Do not flatten raised rose petals, berry knots, or the layered crow feather texture
