About this Dark Cottage Moonlit Swirls Botanical Wreath embroidery pattern

Dark Cottage Moonlit Swirls Botanical Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A charcoal Tudor-style cottage with glowing copper-gold windows anchors the center. Pale cream and sage-gray ribbon forms curl dramatically around the roof and walls. Gold crescents and stars scatter through the upper field, while sage foliage, rust-orange pods, dark berry sprigs and small warm knots create a loose circular botanical frame. Artwork reference - complete composition, undistorted.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer the cottage silhouette, roof pitches, chimney, major wall divisions and windows; then mark the principal pale ribbon paths, crescents, larger stars and main botanical stems. Mark leaf axes and pod centers lightly. Leave tiny dots, berry knots and the smallest stars until spacing is confirmed. 2. COTTAGE BODY + ROOF Stitch the house first so it establishes the darkest value mass. Outline in 3799/310, fill wall panels with 413/414, deepen recesses with 3799, and build roof slopes in compact diagonal rows. Add the shingle rhythm only after the main roof fill so texture never becomes heavier than structure. 3. WINDOWS + WARM FOCAL LIGHT Fill panes with 921/922 and place 729 only in selected central highlights. Re-establish muntins and frames with one-strand 3799/310. Keep all warm window stitches compact and aligned so the glow reads clearly against the charcoal house without bleeding visually into the surrounding wall panels. 4. FLOWING RIBBONS + CELESTIAL FIELD Follow each cream ribbon continuously with 3865/738, introducing 3053 along inner curves and overlaps to suggest depth. Keep tension relaxed through tight spirals. Add crescents in 729/3829 and stars in 3865/738/729 only after the ribbons are placed so their spacing remains open and balanced. 5. SAGE FOLIAGE + ORANGE PODS Stem-stitch botanical branches in 3052/522/3011, then work leaves in fishbone stitch with every stitch aimed toward the central vein. Build orange pods with 921/922, using padded satin or compact French knots for dimension. Balance left and right clusters without making the wreath mechanically symmetrical. 6. DARK BERRIES + FINAL DETAILS Add dark berry sprigs in 310/3021 and small gold or cream knots last. Place remaining tiny stars, dots and stem curls only where the ground still needs rhythm. Re-check the house silhouette, ribbon continuity, warm-light hierarchy and botanical spacing, then remove transfer marks and block from the reverse
