About this Gothic Cottage Bats Spiderweb Moon Wreath embroidery pattern

Gothic Cottage Bats Spiderweb Moon Wreath brings celestial and botanical details into a hand-embroidery composition. Study the colored design and outline together before choosing which shapes to shade, outline or simplify. The supplied guide identifies these motifs: A near-black Gothic cottage with warm golden windows anchors the center. Two black bats and a gold crescent moon float above the roof among cream and gold stars. Symmetrical spiderwebs occupy the upper corners, while plum branches, sage-green leaves, gold berries and curling dark stems form the lower wreath. Artwork reference - complete composition, undistorted.

The colored image is a design reference. Thread, fabric and your stitch choices will affect the finished result. Preserve the open spaces around the smaller motifs and test difficult fills on a spare piece of fabric before stitching the main design.

Choose your hoop size

The outline pages are labeled for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 inch hoops. Measure the printed design before transfer, because printer margins and fit-to-page settings can affect its dimensions.

The stitch guide recommends 8" / 20 cm HOOP for this design.

A larger version gives fine contours and clustered motifs more room. Select the size that preserves the details you want to stitch.

Stitching sequence

  1. PHASES 1. TRANSFER + STRUCTURAL FRAME Transfer the cottage silhouette, roof pitches, chimney, windows and door; the upper arch and both spiderwebs; the bats, crescent and major stars; and the principal wreath branches. Mark leaf axes and berry clusters lightly. Leave the tiniest stars, knots and curls until spacing is confirmed. 2. COTTAGE BODY + ROOF Stitch the central house first. Outline with 3799/310, fill wall planes in 3799/413, and deepen porch and doorway shadows with 310. Work the roof in diagonal rows that follow each slope, then add restrained 413/738 texture so the roof remains dark but not visually flat. 3. WINDOWS + MOON + NIGHT SYMBOLS Build each window with 3829 at the edges and 729 toward the center, then add crisp dark muntins. Stitch bats in compact 310 satin from body to wing tips. Form the crescent with curved 729/3829 satin, then add cream and gold stars with straight stitches, preserving varied sizes and open space. 4. SPIDERWEBS + UPPER ARCH Work web spokes first in 3865/738, then connect them with curved backstitch or stem rows under very low tension to avoid puckering. Add the dark arch in 3799/310 after the webs so its line stays clean. Keep both webs airy and symmetrical without making every segment mechanically identical. 5. PLUM + SAGE BOTANICAL WREATH Stem-stitch the wine branches in 154/3740, then build plum leaves in 154/3740/3041 and sage leaves in 3052/3053/522 using fishbone stitch aimed toward each central vein. Balance weight left-to-right while preserving small gaps of fabric between clusters so the house remains the dominant focal point. 6. BERRIES + CURLS + FINAL BLOCKING Add gold berries in 3829/729 and deep plum berries in 154 as small French knots. Finish lower black curls and tiny tendrils last, then place any remaining stars or warm accents. Check that web lines remain clean, the moon reads brighter than surrounding gold details, remove transfer residue, and block from the reverse
